Google CEO Eric Schmidt spoke with reporters in Sun Valley for 75-minutes yesterday.

Here’s what he said:

• He spent the past six years telling cofounders Sergey Brin and Larry Page Google wasn’t ready to take on Microsoft in an operating systems war. Now it is.
• Eric doesn’t think there’s a conflict of interest that should keep him off the Apple board, but he’s willing to talk to Apple about it.
• As for the economy, Eric sees sluggish growth and consumer frugality as the new normal.
